PENRO Oriental Mindoro conducts LAWIN Training

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) in partnership with USAID B+WISER organized a learning event on LAWIN Forest and Biodiversity Protection System as part of the training program for the newly appointed and promoted employees of DENR Oriental Mindoro. Said activity was held last May 2-5, 2016 at PENRO Conference Room, Suqui, Calapan City.

A total of 60 newly appointed and promoted technical personnel composing of Forest Rangers, Forest Technicians and Foresters participated in the learning event.

Forester Karl Villegas of USAID B+WISER and Forester Amor Asi served as the facilitator of the learning event. PENRO Mary June F. Maypa gave her message to the learners as a welcome remarks in the opening of the event. Invited resource speakers were Mr. Raul Briz of Forest Management Bureau, Mr. Ronet Santos, Mr. JC Jasmin and Mr. Glenn Forbes of USAID B+WISER.Moreover, planning of a conservation area, formulation of conservation targets and downloading of LAWIN application in participants’ laptops & tablets. The third day was allotted for the dry run of LAWIN System in the areas of Naujan and San Teodoro. Presentation of outputs in field activities such as mapping and recording of possible threats in the area patrolled were served as the closing activity of the training. Through the support and cooperation of the learners, said training was successfully done and objectives set were achieved.

            Thus, the learning event aims to prepare the learners for the use of the LAWIN system and to accurately record all the possible threats to the protection of forest and biodiversity of the province.
