PENRO ORIENTAL MINDORO CELEBRATES NATIONAL DISASTER RESILIENCE MONTH 2017
By virtue of the President’s Executive Order No. 29 signed on June 28, 2017, the Disaster Month was renamed from National Disaster Consciousness Month to National Disaster Resilience Month. The observance highlights the shift from disaster awareness to disaster resilience.
In relation to this, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Oriental Mindoro joins the celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month 2017 with the theme; “4Ks: Kamalayan sa Kahandaan, Katumbas ay Kaligtasan”.
A tree planting activity was initiated together with the employees of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and the LGU of Barangay Gutad. More than 65 personnel from the two agencies actively participate in the planting of 750 seedlings of bitaog. The tree planting activity aims to rehabilitate the typhoon damaged beach forest area in Barangay Gutad. Maintenance and protection of planted “bitaog” shall be the responsibility of the residents and Barangay Council of Gutad, Calapan City. This area was damaged by typhoon Nona in 2015 and typhoon Nina in 2016. Despite these calamities, the PENR Office together with other partners continuously rehabilitating the area with the help and support of the Council of the said barangay.
The celebration became successful through the partnership and active participation of DENR, PPA and LGU of Gutad.
